These are just the pencils with the base inks. Detail inks and colors will be up as soon as I can get to 'em. It's been a busy week, and I got distracted.

So the PS3 is gonna be 600 bucks. Yeah? Is anyone really that surprised? Really they've been prepping us for that for many months now. It's a shame it's gonna cut down on the "everybody has to have one" thing as your average college student doesn't have 600+ to drop on a system and games. I think by the time they can cut the price down it'll be fine. But in the meantime a lot of people are gonna be doing without. Well, we did say we wanted cutting edge, and boy it looks like we're getting it.

I would have liked to have seen them do a proper redesign of the controller though. Microsoft really nailed the new Xbox one, and it's not like the Dualshock doesn't have it's flaws. If nothing else I wish they'd put some damned indents on top of the analog sticks. Those things have always been too slick, especially during a good GTA chase. The loss of rumble sucks, but with their lawsuit problems it's understandable. The motion stuff sounds like it could be either something big or more likely not. Gotta wait and see.

Obviously the big winner is Nintendo, for many reasons. As has been the word for some time it looks like everybody is gonna grab one of those, regardless of their other plans.

The dual pricing thing makes some sense, and it's not as terrible a hack as the Xbox fiasco. You lose out on some connectivity options, and a lot of hard drive space. But at least you're not cutting yourself completely out of any online connection or content that uses the hard drive like the lesser 360 package did. Better hope your games don't need patches, guys. The real issue is the loss of HDMI, which may or may not be a huge problem. There's word that the movie studios are making Sony configure all Blu-Ray discs to play movies in lower resolution if you don't use the copy-resistant HDMI connection. Granted, you're still gonna get a substantial picture, but not in High-Def. Could be a big big issue.

And for those that say the 360 is so much cheaper, we're talking apples and oranges here. And it's all due to Sony using HD capable discs as their default media, and Microsoft using standard dvds. If you wait and pick up a HD-Dvd player add-on for the 360, chances are you'll be right up there in the PS3 price range once all is said and done. And there's still no indication that ANY games will use the drive. Personally I think the 360 is a fine machine right now, but they've crippled it's long term capabilities.

How this is going to affect the detail and scope of games to come won't be seen till the games start coming out. And it's gonna take a couple years for the real meat to be on the table. I for one don't buy the line that new compression algorithms are going to make the 360 content fit just fine on their dvds. Sounds like "new math" to me. We'll see.

Me and Steve both have PS2's, and we split the X-box / Gamecube purchases. But there's no 360 here, and I don't see there being one till the cost comes considerably down. It's just not appealing enough to justify the cost, especially given the "Our games are HD, they run in 720p." 720p is half HD, not full HD. If you've seen a comparison between the two, there's no competition. And since my tv only does 1080i and 480i/p, 720 is looking like "the suck".

Of course, it doesn't have an HDMI jack either...

...Anyone wanna buy a tv?
