Frank Einstein

Mike Allred's Madman Comics are some of the greatest things ever put to page. Rocket ships, Beatniks, and Frisbee's are the style of the day, with lots of mutant aliens and robot mayhem on the side. Page for page it's one of the most entertaining reads ever, you can't help but be a fan. Allred and his characters characters have appeared in the background of some of Kevin Smith's movies and Frank Einstein himself should be starring in his own flick one of these days...

I've been a Madman fan for a looong time, so naturally after how Cheetah turned out he was next on my list. I've never been especially happy with the legs, and the face is a complete bluff, but the pose is almost perfect.

You can't see it at all but there is a large, yet thin dot at the bottom of the giant exclamation mark behind him, and it makes the thing especially fragile. The tiny connection between them broke almost immediately, but the standard coat hanger armature inside is keeping it tightly together.

Which is especially surprising since that thing weighs a ton.

These 2 covers were the inspiration for the pose and background.

I'm really happy with the way he turned out, yet I'd like to redo him someday when I'm more comfortable doing realistic human form. Till then, this piece remains the 13" king of the shelf.

Randy Bowen, the undisputed king of comic book sculptors and the man whose work has most influenced my style, has already done several licensed pieces based on this character. You can find out more about them at http://bowendesigns.com or click on the logo to the right.
